Literacy: teachers' comments
It fits in very well with what the National Curriculum stipulates and what we as teachers have to do, and what we have to teach…any resource like that is important.
Misconceptions they [the students] have had, and hearing what they have said throughout the duration of this project, it has changed some of them. I think it has made them realise that Gypsies and Travellers are different to what they thought, or what their parents have told them, or what they see in newspapers or on the news.
This project has shown that Gypsies and Travellers don’t all fall under the same umbrella….
As an individual, I have actually learnt a lot about Travellers and some of their culture. I think that’s quite important for me to go forward and perhaps do this again … the information I have gathered throughout this project has been important as I can now deliver the right messages to the children, the right views and the right information…. I think it has helped me understand Gypsy and Traveller life as well as their way of living, and also storytelling skills.
